During the press conference, McNish was asked whether the deal was already in motion before Abt's home win in Berlin, to which he replied:
"It was in process, it was always part of the plan.
"It's not necessarily something that was defined by his Berlin performance - but his Berlin performance cemented everything on it and it seemed appropriate that with the questions that came out after Berlin that we should put that to bed going forward.
"Just to make sure that everybody was clear and he didn't have any unnecessary questions, because we need him to focus on winning Zurich and New York."
Reigning champion and teammate Lucas di Grassi also congratulated Abt on his new contract:
"Daniel was very underestimated in the first few seasons - but he learned a lot.
"He really adapted to Formula E, he's a strong driver now and it's more than deserved for him to stay for Season 5."
Audi is the first team to officially announce both drivers for next season, however TECHEETAH have subtly confirmed both Jean-Eric Vergne and Andre Lotterer to remain with the team, when DS drafted in both as development drivers for next year's car, amid rumours that DS will jump ship from Virgin Racing to TECHEETAH as powertrain suppliers for next year.
The only other driver officially announced is Felipe Massa, ex-F1 driver, who will race for the Venturi squad, however his teammate is yet to be announced.
