Formula 1 has revealed the opening European season of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, comprising of 8 races across 6 venues.
As predicted, Austria and Great Britain are double header events, with the 2nd race at each venue being dubbed the 2020 Formula 1 Pirelli Grosser Preis der Steiermark (Styrian Grand Prix) and the Emirates 2020 Formula 1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix respectively.
Due to the new 14 day quarentine measures in the UK, the 2 British rounds have been pushed back to Rounds 4 and 5, with Hungary filling the gap for Round 3. The first 3 races will be on back-to-back weekends.
After a week off, there will be another set of 3 back-to-back races, 2 at Silverstone followed by the Spanish Grand Prix. The only races that remain on their original pre-pandemic dates are the following 2 races in Belgium (30th August) and Italy (6th September) and the opening round of the season in Austria (5th July).
Support catagories FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 will race at all 8 events with the normal 2 race format (Feature and Sprint races) remaining.
All 8 events will be closed to spectators, and subject to the Coronavirus situation at the time of the race.
More races will be announced in the coming weeks, with the expectation of having 15-18 races before the end of the season in December.
