After an incredibly close qualifying, Hamilton bottled the start from pole, dropping to 3rd by Turn 3. Raikkonen made an attempted to pass, but locked up and tagged Hamilton's rear right, spinning him around and dropping him to the back of the field. his gave the Fin a 10 second time penalty.
Perez had a scary incident at Turn 1, where he was spun around into the path of the Williams' who were exciting the pitlane, narrowly avoiding a head on collision.

Hamilton, spurred on by the home "best" fans, make his comeback through the field, despite complaining that his car was broken.
Meanwhile, Bottas was chipping away at Vettel's lead, bringing it down to 4.8s by the time Vettel boxed, and Bottas a lap later. Hamilton had stayed out for as long as possible, hoping for a Safety Car, but eventually had to bail and pit.
However not long after, Marcus Ericsson has a nasty shunt at Turn 1 after failing to close the DRS in time, similar to Grosjean's incident in FP1, and became the 2nd Sauber to retire after Leclerc retired just after his pit stop.

A safety car was thrown on lap 32 of 52, and the whole of Silverstone erupted as they know that Hamilton was back in the fight for the win.
However, both Ferrari and Red Bull boxed under the SC for fresh softs, while Mercedes opted to stay out on their Mediums, and all was set for an epic 20 lap showdown to the finish.
On the restart, Bottas bunched the pack up so suddenly and early on the Hangar Straight, there was nearly a big pile up behind and the mid-field cars nearly piled into each other, not expecting the leader to slow suddenly.
Vettel held the lead after a good restart ahead of Bottas, as Raikkonen and Verstappen had an amazing battle that lasted half a lap, with Verstappen eventually going round the outside at Corpse to take the position.
However, when Sainz and Grosjean tried the same move, they collided, sending them both into the barriers, with Sainz almost rolling, and causing a 2nd safety car in as many laps.

The 2nd restart saw the start of an epic 11 lap fight between both Mercedes and Ferrari for the win, and a battle that will surely go down in history.
It was both Ferraris attacking both Mercedes, as Bottas tried to hold the lead from Vettel, and Hamilton tried to hold 3rd from Raikkonen.
After many unsuccessful attempts however, Vettel dived down the inside of Bottas on lap 47 of 52 to take the lead at Brooklands.
Hamilton then passed Bottas at the same corner for 2nd, and Raikkonen also took advantage of Bottas' wrecked tyres to finish 3rd.
Verstappen's race ended sooner than expected after a Brake-By-Wire failure, while Brendon Hartley retired before his race really got started, with issues on the new car after his horrific crash in FP3.
