BTCC - Oulton Park Race 3: Collard Heads BMW 1-2-3
West Surry Racing Team BMW's sensational day ended with a bang, with Collard making it 2 wins out of 3, and a total of 5 podiums between Team BMW and BMW Pirtek Racing.
Collard took off at the start in his rear-wheel drive BMW, taking the lead ahead of Austin's front-wheel drive Alfa Romeo Guilietta, however a massive crash on the start-finish straight brought out the red flag, halting proceedings.
The crash happened when Mike Bushell's VW CC was sandwiched between Tom Oliphant's Mercedes and Rory Butcher's MG6 GT. Both Oliphant and Butcher were fired into the pit wall, with Butcher rebounding across the circuit, collecting both BTC Norlin Honda's of Chris Smiley and Dan Lloyd, with Lloyd suffering extensive damage to his Civic Type R. All drivers were taken out of the race immediately, except Bushell, who amazingly escaped with no damage, despite causing the incident in the first place.
There were a lot of non-starters for the race as well, with Simpson and Team HARD's Bobby Thompson missing out due to technical issues, and Motorbase's Sam Tordoff due to the fire he suffered during race 2.
