BTCC - Oulton Park Race 2: Turkington Takes First Win of the Year
He dedicates his first win of 2018 to his mother, who sadly passed away last week.
Matt Simpson, who won Race 1, was originally meant to start on pole for Race 2, however a technical issue put him out for the rest of the day. This meant 2nd place man Tom Chilton started on pole, and lead for the early part of the race. However, his ballast laden Ford Focus RS didn't have an answer for Turkington's lighter BMW 125i M Sport when he made his move at Lodge Corner.
However, the most drama occurred on lap 1, with the narrow Oulton Park circuit throwing up action as always, when Honda's Dan Cammish fired across the grass, before being collected by Laser Tools Racing's Aiden Moffet. Soon after, WIX Racing with Eurotech's Brett Smith was fired sideways towards the Island Hairpin, somehow managing to avoid the oncoming traffic.
BMW's Rob Collard impressed by carving through the field with his trademark moves, including a last lap pass on Alfa Romeo's Rob Austin into Turn 1, demoting him to 7th. This proved to be better for Austin than Collard, with 7th being picked for the Race 3 reverse grid pole.
